Hello Сommunity! The AlmaLinux OS Foundation is proud to announce the general availability of AlmaLinux OS 8.8 codenamed “Sapphire Caracal”!

Update from Other AlmaLinux 8.x, ELevate from CentOS 7

Users of earlier versions of AlmaLinux 8.x can update to the latest version via dnf update or via graphical desktop tools in GNOME and KDE.

Still on CentOS 7.x? Looking for a new home? Don’t wait, ELevate! AlmaLinux’s ELevate enables migration from CentOS 7.x to AlmaLinux 8.x or 9.x, or another derivative.

Running another 8.x? Move to AlmaLinux using almalinux-deploy.

Live Images, Cloud and Containers

AlmaLinux also offers a variety of Cloud, Container and Live Images. The builds for these get kicked off as soon as the public repository is ready. The following images are expected to be available shortly.

We will post a separate “Images Update” announcement soon, to keep the community informed.

IMPORTANT! The latest and minimal tags now point to the latest AlmLinux 9 version. If you’re using these tags and want to stay on AlmaLinux 8 please update your Dockerfiles.

Release Notes and More Information

AlmaLinux 8.8 brings enhancements and features that provide a more stable and secure open hybrid cloud foundation, to help deliver workloads, applications and services for multiple environments faster and with less effort. Realmd system role, OpenSCAP and other security-related updates allow simple management of security and compliance. Improvements to application streams provide compilers, runtime languages, databases and web server updates. This release also continues to make it easier to automate and standardize systems with enhancements to the web console and new system roles. New container capabilities allow the development and management of containerized deployments more easily.
